2014 Merrie Monarch Portraits
Since 2012, We’ve had the honor and privilege to photograph the Kumu Hula and judges of the Merrie Monarch Festival! It began when Roland and Kalama, who are in charge of producing and airing the festival video coverage, approached us with a proposal to shoot portraits for the brochures that would be passed out at the actual festival in Hilo. We were pretty stoked, and since then, once a year, we’ve been fortunate to photograph the Kumu Hula and judges who are either new to the festival, or need updated portraits. The shoot takes place at the Ala Moana Hotel, when all the Kumu Hula and judges meet to plan out next year’s Merrie Monarch Festival. These images are for this year’s festival…enjoy!
