Kristin and Don Married!

The couple wanted their wedding to be a reflection of who they are as a couple. Don and Kristin have a shared passion for travel and wine, so they are fittingly having their wedding at the only winery in Chicago (the city they met), and there is a travel theme within many elements of their reception. For instance, the guest book is a globe, the tables are all named after places they have traveled to together, and the escort cards are luggage tags. The decor that is not travel themed was chosen to reflect the colors of their wedding (wine tones – burgundy, blushes and rose gold) and is very classic/romantic. Two sentimental aspects will be found near the guestbook/gift table – 1 is a collage of photos of all of the family members on their wedding days/both group and individual shots). Family is very important to them and family weddings have always been something to look forward to because it is the time when no matter what – everyone from near and far comes together to celebrate, this will also function as their #hastag reminder to guests to take their own photos at the wedding and #Toast2Provost. The other sentimental aspect is a letter from Kristin’s mom  that she “found” in a message in a bottle in Costa Rica. When she looked up from reading it – Don was on one knee proposing. Within the letter, her mom wrote about how she couldn’t wait to have Don as a son in law and how he was already part of the family…which was the most perfect moment ever because it was particularly important to Kristin that Don involved her mom in the proposal because they were not certain she would be able to be at our wedding, as she had just been diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer.   Kristin almost cancelled the trip because she didn’t want to leave her.  Her original letter will be displayed next to a vase of flowers honoring her memory at the wedding. One last sentimental aspect that they are doing the night before the wedding is sending up floating lanterns. Since they went to Thailand for Christmas in 2013, they have since spent every Christmas Eve sending up floating lanterns to bring luck for the new year. It was Kristin’s mom’s favorite tradition – so they are doing it the night before the wedding – after rehearsal dinner, to bring good luck to their marriage.
